LYNCH TO RUN 5 NCATS EVENTS IN ‘09
Team 77 has announced their plans to run five of the possible 13 races on the 2009 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series schedule. Team 77 and driver Derek Lynch will focus on the five Ontario races for 2009.
Lynch said in a statement earlier this week, “It just makes more sense for us right now, to stay closer to home. We have run the entire schedule for the last two seasons with great results, but we need to scale back due to the economy and we need give our team a break”. Team 77 will run its first event on June 6th at Delaware Speedway and round out their season with events at Mosport Road Course on June 14th, Mosport Oval on August 8th, Barrie Speedway on September 12th and Kawartha Speedway on September 26th.
Team 77 feels that by focusing on the Ontario only events it will give them a much better shot at maintaining a competitive fleet of cars and providing a chance to get Lynch into victory lane at one of the selected events. NASCAR Canadian Tire Series teams have absorbed several costs over the last few seasons with regard to car upgrades and in order to maintain a competitive stance, Team 77 will focus their energy on fielding first class equipment and run fewer events. Lynch also commented that, “My first priority is the operation of Kawartha Speedway and while we have a first class group of people in place to operate the facility in my absence, I find it hard juggling the demands of the time on the road with the race team along with maintaining the performance level I expect Kawartha to operate at. The staff has come to expect it and so have the fans and race teams”.
Lynch stated that the five race schedule will be a great move this year in order to have a legitimate shot at winning races at facilities he has lots of laps at, as well as providing the team in its entirety, a chance to get some family time while continuing to build their program without the demands of time on the road to take away from preparation and test time.
